| I was watching this foreign movie "ROUGE" directed by Jackie-Chan and it gave me the idea for this piece... A "GEISHA" is a Japanese girl trained to provide entertainment especially for men. They train for 5-6 years learning dance, singing, playing instruments, flower arrangements, wearing kimono's, tea ceremonies, calligraphy, social skills, alcohol serving manners, modeling and international tours. Geisha's wear masks of white paint so as not to reveal their "inner selves" as they may sell their bodies for money. These intelligent beings often have to tolerate imbeciles and so-called clients, so may smoke Opium to pass the time away... The piece took some time to complete. The "research" on colors, similar to the Japanese paintings were hard to match (as in mixing acrylics to match what I saw in the books). The light brown color in the background was used to bring out the skyblue color in the Geisha's Kimono...I also included a skyblue bracelet and chopsticks to match her outfit... NICE! The flower pattern on the Kimono was also part of the research process as I was picky about what patterns to use. The fine detail of her hair was achieved with a fine point ink pen. The Chinese Opium Pipe, made from animal bone and intricately carved with traditional designs was the hardest to illustrate to make it look "real" on paper. The chinese inscription on the pipe reads "SICK" (as in ill). Overall I enjoyed every bit of the "creating process" and couldn't wait to share this piece with everyone when I was finally done...PEACE! | |||||||||||||||||
