About Artworks
I got the idea to do "The Orchid Series" after talking to "Padmini". She wanted another piece for her new home and wanted to go with a "Warhol" theme. She diddnt decide on what to do yet but I took it upon myself to do some research and see what this guy "Warhol" was all about. Already known and admired for his repetitive technique of many Pop Art, Campbell's Soup  and Movie Star paintings,
Andy Warhol created a piece called "Flowers" in 1964 (silkscreen on canvas). This is where I got my idea from, but I decided to go with the "Laeliocattleya Orchid" (Warhol used the Hisbiscus) because it is a unique, and highly evolved plant with over 25,000 different species in many colors, shapes and forms. The orange orchid was the first in its production. As I sketched out the plant on canvas, I diddnt want to give it a "Curvy" look or feel as I always illustrate with straight and sharp lines. This was the easy part, the hardest part was choosing the colors and making them work. After picking out the foreground and background colors I worked monochromatically from dark to light and worked it to the utmost detail so that everything matched in size and design...I love this piece and really wanted to keep it all to myself but then I thought..."you can always paint another set" so Im currently working on another "Warhol" as we speak...ENJOY!
